Stuart Kittow has seldom been associated with speedy two-year-old winners, but he looks to have a good one on his hands in Youkan, whose clearcut debut success at 20-1 in the 5f novice came as no surprise.

Kittow, whose last two-year-old winner was in 2014 and whose last first-time-out juvenile winner was six years before that, said: "He's my first in a long time, but you need the horse. I was a bit scared to be honest. He has been going so well at home and we just hoped he would do what we thought he could do.

"We knew what we had and we might think about the Listed National Stakes at Sandown. It's just lovely to have a nice horse."
