Kirby's Stargazer books place at all-weather finals after straightforward succes

The Philip Kirby-trained Stargazer produced an authoritative performance in the 2m½f Betway Stayers Conditions Stakes – pulling away from rivals inside the final two furlongs under Robert Winston, to book his place at Lingfield's All Weather Finals Day next April in the process.

"I always thought he was very good and he obviously loves the track but whether he was up to taking on horses rated seven or eight pounds higher than him I was not sure," Kirby said.

"He has got a very good turn of foot but he also stays two miles so I don't think it matters whether they go quick or slow as both suit him, he was very good today."
