Kingswell Theatre showed the right spirit in making all and fending off a strong French challenge to win the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase and have Michael and Tom Scudamore dreaming of an Aintree date.

The seven-year-old is not the first to find the different discipline to his liking, and the winning trainer is aiming him at the rest of the series, with the Randox Health Grand National a dream further down the line.

The winning rider, full of praise for his brother's training of the winner, said: "It was a real battle after he put down at the last, and great credit to the team back home to get him fit for nearly four miles first time out this season as well."
