Kilcarry strikes for Ryan on a controversial day

The excellent run of form enjoyed by trainer John Ryan had been one of the stories of the early part of the jumps season. The winners had dried up through the winter but he came back to life on Saturday when Kilcarry Bridge produced a tough performance to land the Grade B 2m2f handicap chase.

The son of Balakheri did it in the style of many of the Ryan horses – from the front, jumping soundly and showing stomach for a battle.

Kilcarry Bridge looked in trouble when runner-up Black Zero came to take it up between the last two fences, but that horse had no answer to the battling qualities of the winner who came right back after the last to score by two and a-half lengths.
