Juveniles have Milton Harris excited as Mitchell Bastyan's hot run goes on

The Milton Harris-trained Aliomaana made amends for a final-flight fall at the course earlier this month to take the 2m juvenile maiden hurdle by 29 lengths under Mitchell Bastyan.

Bastyan, who was shipped off the ex-John and Thady Gosden trained-three-year-old when two lengths ahead in the unlucky defeat last time, has now won on his last three rides and has an exciting crop of juvenile hurdlers to look forward to riding this autumn.

A satisfied Harris, who was watching from his Wiltshire home, said: "It’s a long way for us, Perth. I thought the race this morning looked like an all-right race. The plan is to take on the Listed mares' hurdle at Aintree in December.

"I like juvenile horses and the prize-money is good. We’ve got four or five that are comparable to her and hopefully one or two of them are better.

"She cost £17,000 at the July sale, so she wasn’t a lot of money. We’re a growing yard and we’re up to 50 horses now. We’re going the right way."

Dead-heat drama

There was little to choose between the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Super Six and Jennie Candlish’s It’s Good To Laugh in the market for the 2m novice hurdle, and the pair couldn’t be split in the race.

A dead heat was called with Sam Twiston-Davies riding the 11-10 favourite for his dad and Sean Quinlan on Candlish’s 5-4 shot.

Minella march continues

Minella Trump, trained by Donald McCain, completed a fourth straight win at the course in the feature 2m4f handicap chase.

Ridden by Brian Hughes, the seven-year-old made it three in a row over fences to fend off the chase debutant Pay The Piper by three lengths.

Worthwhile trip

Gordon Elliott struck with his first runner in Britain since returning from his six-month suspension when 11-10 favourite O Connell Street, ridden by Jordan Gainford, landed the 2m4f handicap chase by 16 lengths.
