There were wild scenes of celebration after Danehill Kodiac took the notable scalp of Waldgeist in the Group 3 Gigaset Cumberland Lodge Stakes, with the winning owners doing their best to brighten a murky afternoon in Berkshire.

John Davies, Andy Smith, Ashley Carr, Jeffrey Brown and brothers Paul and Peter Govier have enjoyed plenty of success over jumps with Lil Rockerfeller and it was his exploits in long-distance hurdle races that Danehill Kodiac was purchased to repeat.

However, after he knuckled down under an inspired front-running ride from Sean Levey to fend off French Derby runner-up Waldgeist, all plans to go jumping are firmly on hold with further Group-race riches on the Flat awaiting the Richard Hannon-trained four-year-old.
