Jockey Lorna Brooke airlifted to Bristol hospital following heavy fall
Jockey Lorna Brooke was airlifted to Bristol Southmead Hospital after suffering a heavy fall from Orchestrated in the 2m7f handicap chase, which resulted in the final race being delayed by an hour.
The 7lb-claiming amateur fell from the ten-year-old at the third fence in the race, which was won by Legend Of Zorro, and was given immediate medical assistance on the track. Orchestrated, who is trained by the jockey’s mother Lady Susan Brooke, was unscathed in the incident.
An air ambulance was called to assist Brooke, who was conscious throughout and communicating with the medical staff.
Clerk of the course Jason Loosemore said: “She [Lorna] was airlifted to Bristol Southmead Hospital for ongoing assessment and has been stabilised and was conscious throughout.
“All of our thoughts are with Lorna, racing is irrelevant when incidents like that happen.”
Nicholls lands four-timer
The concluding bumper, which had an original post-time of 5.30, went off around an hour late and was won by Kandoo Kid under Lorcan Williams, bringing up a four-timer on the card for trainer Paul Nicholls.
Tulin kick-started the trainer’s four-timer in the 2m½f novice hurdle, giving the Elite Racing Club – renowned for owning Flat stars Soviet Song and Marsha – their 400th winner.
Syndicate manager Dan Downie said: “We’ve been waiting a long time for it. We were trying to work out which horse it was going to be, but two members were there to see it, which was lovely.”
Nicholls also struck with Chez Hans in the 2m3f novice handicap hurdle, and Calva D’Auge in the 3m handicap hurdle.
