Jockey Graham Lee fires in 439-1 treble on final Flat meeting at Carlisle
Wednesday: Carlisle
Jockey Graham Lee made the most of the final Flat meeting at the Cumbrian track with a 439-1 treble.
Lee got off to a flyer with victory on the Bryan Smart-trained Cotai Pearl, who came from last to first to take the 6f nursery by one and a half lengths.
"I was over the moon with her," Smart said. "I was a little bit worried about the ground but she did it very well. Graham sat very quiet for a long time and she was going away at the death.
"She's done well and I think she'll go on again and do us proud. I'm delighted for the owner Fawzi Nass, who's supported me, and Oliver St Lawrence, who bought the filly for me."
Lee and Smart were in the winner's enclosure again as the jockey steered 9-1 shot Emperor Caradoc to victory in the 7f handicap, which was great news for the trainer, who had been concerned with how his string was performing.
Smart said: "I've been a bit disappointed with how the horses have run of late but they seem well at home.
"We've not got any nasties or coughs but I can't put my finger on it, then these two go and run out of their skin; so hopefully it will continue to the back end."
The treble was completed in the last with Lee leading from start to finish on the Donald McCain-trained 10-1 shot Chuvelo in the 1m6f handicap.
Smart came close to a treble of his own but Antagonize could manage only second in division one of the mile handicap behind Sixstar, who was the rank outsider of the field at 50-1.
