'Job offer a no-brainer' - another winner for Henderson conditional Brennan
Conditional jockey Nathan Brennan had more than one reason to smile after partnering Margaret Geake's American Gerry to victory in the maiden hurdle – just his third winner of the campaign, but second this week.
"I told the owners to buy him, and he hasn't done anything wrong despite finishing second a few times," said the 22-year-old, who is not after a career as a bloodstock agent just yet.
Based in Marlborough, Brennan had spells with Irish turf giants Dessie Hughes and Noel Meade before moving to Britain in 2019. He rode nine winners last season before joining Nicky Henderson's phenomenal Lambourn operation in August.
"I'm loving it at Seven Barrows and it's full of great people and horses," added the rider, who struck on Henderson's Scarpia at Plumpton on Monday.
"I rode out this morning before jumping in the car and heading up here and was quite optimistic about the horse winning, but I was last time too and he was second, so it was nice to get his head in front."
Brennan, who was riding American Gerry for Hughie Morrison, added: "Things were great last season when I was with Chris Gordon, but it dried up as I tried to freelance in the summer. My agent Dave Roberts and Mick Fitzgerald, my jockey coach, helped me get into Nicky's. There was a job offer and I'd have been stupid not to take it.
"I'm happy with how things are going and the aim this season would be to get rid of my 7lb claim, which is another five winners."
