Japan took another notable step forward to get the better of Crystal Ocean in the Juddmonte International, improving to a Racing Post Rating of 126 that now sees him rated this year's leading three-year-old.

Having demonstrated top-class ability when a runaway winner of the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, this second Group 1 success confirms his position at the head of the Classic generation and it would be surprising if there was not further improvement to come.

Off a busy schedule and hard race in the King George, Crystal Ocean was not quite at his best, returning an RPR of 125 against his Ascot figure of 129.
