James Doyle helped to ease the frustration of Godolphin and Charlie Appleby, who endured a trying day in Lancashire at Haydock but enjoyed more success in Yorkshire with a double on the card.

Two-year-old debutant Mythical Dancer made a good impression, staying on late to pip the Charlie Hills-trained 2-1 favourite Tuscan by a head in division one of the 7f novice stakes, before Noble Dynasty defied a 144-day break to take the mile handicap by an even narrower margin of a short head.

Doyle’s day was to get better still as he completed a treble aboard the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Star Jewel in the 7f fillies’ handicap.

Southern streak continues

Archie Watson’s progressive three-year-old Southern Voyage won his third race in a row, taking the 1m4f handicap by three-quarters of a length to build on wins at Redcar and Ascot earlier this season.

Kieran Shoemark, who was aboard the Clipper Logistics-owned colt, believes there could be more to come and said to Racing TV: "He only does enough, he’s a little bit lazy. He’s still quite raw, although he’s had a few runs now.

"I was always quite confident on him and even next year I think he’ll be a nice four-year-old."

Persistence pays off

The Richard Hannon-trained Oh Herberts Reign made experience count to get off the mark at the fifth time of asking in division two of the 7f novice stakes.

The two-year-old, who ran creditably to finish sixth in the Premier Yearling Stakes at York last month, justified 7-4 favouritism to win by half a length under Thore Hammer Hansen.
