James Doyle at the double as Yorkshire Cup entry Trawlerman impresses
Friday: Chelmsford
Trawlerman was last seen finishing sixth to Alenquer, Adayar and Yibir in the Classic Trial at Sandown last year and he made a winning reappearance in the feature 1m2f handicap, justifying 11-5 favouritism in gritty style.
Godolphin's four-year-old was running for the first time since being gelded and circled the field before finding plenty for pressure under James Doyle to fend off giant grey USS Michigan by half a length.
Trawlerman shaped as if there was much more to come as he began keenly and raced wide, so it is interesting connections have given him an entry in the Group 2 Paddy Power Yorkshire Cup on May 13.
Doyle has now partnered the horse to both of his successes so far, and he completed a double aboard the well-backed Court In Session for Simon and Ed Crisford in the mile handicap.
Double for Moore
Ryan Moore was another jockey to ride a double on the card as he partnered Red Mirage and I'm Mable to contrasting victories.
The jockey had to be at his strongest aboard the former, who won by a neck on his first start for Andrew Balding in the 7f handicap, but he had an easier time of things aboard I'm Mable, who justified 7-4 favouritism with a strong finish in the 5f handicap.
Moore has three Group 3 chances at Newbury on Saturday, including Gubbass in the Greenham for Richard Hannon.
