Jack Foley right at home with all-the-way winner as Piper calls the tune
After a brief stint riding in Britain, Jack Foley is back home working for his original mentor Tom Mullins and he partnered his fifth career winner by making all on Magic Piper in the second division of the 2m5½f handicap hurdle.
Foley gave the Tom Gibney-trained seven-year-old a fine ride from the front, keeping plenty up his sleeve and going away from the last to win by an impressive 15 lengths from Frazel Express, who had mounted a brief challenge between the final two hurdles.
Foley had enjoyed a fast start to his career last autumn, including a double on Morgiana weekend at Punchestown in November. He said: "Tom Mullins was great to me and gave me three quick winners on the track. I decided to go to England and gave it a go for a few weeks but I'm more of a homebird. I'm delighted to be back with Tom and I hope I'm here to stay."
On the race, he added: "The trainer told me to buck out smartly and see where he was comfortable, and he was very comfortable in front. He jumped well the whole way and only really needed to use his jumping from the third-last. He pulled out plenty when the runner-up came to him."
Dynamic in right place
The Brian Hamilton-trained mare Dynamic Allen had notched her only previous success at Downpatrick and showed again that this venue is worth a few lengths to her as she landed the 2m3f beginners' chase in the hands of Simon Torrens.
Her liking for Downpatrick was demonstrated by her defeat here of Doldido, who had finished more than eight lengths in front of her at Clonmel last time.
Hamilton said: "She did it well. The plan wasn't to come here, but the handicapper had dropped her to a hurdles mark of 102 and it made this a good opportunity to have a go at. It worked out grand."
He added: "She has won around here before, she handles the place well, and she'll stay over fences now. Her pedigree suggests she should be far better over fences. She also had a slight wind problem, which was operated on and that seems to have helped her too. We'll try to find something similar."
Statuaire impresses
Willie and Danny Mullins teamed up to win the 2m3f maiden hurdle with French import Statuaire, who looks to have a bright future.
The daughter of Muhtathir, second in a Listed contest at Auteuil as a three-year-old in 2018, took it up between the last two flights and galloped clear in smart fashion to score by 23 lengths.
The rider said: "It was a good performance. It backs up her Listed form in France and hopefully she can build on that. She was a little keen early on but she hadn't run for the best part of a year. She galloped when it mattered."
