'I've never been so fast over three miles' - Finn Lambert on festival ride
Friday: Doncaster
Conditional jockey Finn Lambert had his claim reduced from 10lb to 7lb after riding the fifth win of his career on Thelasthighking in the opening 2m3½f handicap hurdle.
Lambert steered a productive route up the stands' rail on the well-backed 2-1 chance to see off outsider Maskia.
Lambert, who is attached to winning trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies, had finished tenth on the yard's Ballyandy in the Pertemps Hurdle at Cheltenham the previous day.
He told Sky Sports: "It was great fun at Cheltenham. I've never been so fast over three miles before. This fellow jumped well today and I had the rail, which was a help."
Brace for Brace
A day after again going close to breaking his duck at the Cheltenham Festival, Fergal O'Brien enjoyed some compensation with a double in South Yorkshire headed by the success of Herewegohoney in the 2m3½f novices' hurdle.
Both winners were ridden by Connor Brace, who initiated his double when the Middleham Park-owned mare overcame odds-on favourite Lounge Lizard in the three-runner affair.
Brace said: "She jumped very well and will be even better over fences."
O'Brien and Brace teamed up 35 minutes later with Manothepeople, who made all to land the 3m½f novice handicap hurdle.
Lakota Warrior 'improved'
Lakota Warrior won on his debut over fences in a strongly run 2m4½f novice handicap chase for Dan Skelton and Harry Cobden.
Cobden said: "Lakota Warrior is a lovely horse and jumped well, like most of the Skeltons' do. He's improved for going over a fence and should progress from this."
