'I've always dreamed of this' - Skelton draws level with Hughes in title race
Harry Skelton said the battle for the jump jockeys’ title is one he will relish after drawing level with reigning champion Brian Hughes.
Skelton struck on the Jeremy Scott-trained Stormy Flight, owned by Ian Murray and Dave Smith, in the 2m4f handicap hurdle to join Hughes on 130 winners.
Skelton, now 1-2 favourite (from 4-7) to land the title with Paddy Power, said: “I’m really enjoying it and this is the position where I want to be – I’ve always dreamed of this.
“My agent Ian Popham is doing a great job and I’m very thankful for everyone's support. It’s going to be a battle but one I’m looking forward to.”
McMenamin in charge
Clearcut conditional championship leader Danny McMenamin continued his fine recent form with victory on the Paul Webber-trained Harry The Norseman in the 2m handicap hurdle.
Harry The Norseman was a poignant winner for owner-breeder Julian Nettlefold as the five-year-old is named after his late son, with McMenamin aboard for a seventh winner from his last 33 rides.
McMenamin said on Sky Sports Racing: “I’m lucky to be leading the way and I have a lot of people to thank, including boss Nicky Richards and agent Richard Hale. Hopefully, I can make them proud and keep my position in front.”
O'Brien buzzing
Fergal O’Brien edged closer to a maiden century in a season by taking his tally to 91 winners after victories with Ask A Honey Bee in the 2m7½f novice hurdle and Oski in the 2m4f novice handicap chase.
