Iain Jardine is already planning for the winter with Havana Go as he capped off a fruitful season at Ayr with victory at the course's final Flat meeting of the season.

The six-year-old fought off a strong challenge from the Mick Appleby-trained Vocatus, rallying to claim his third success this year by a short-head.

Jardine said: "He's tough and genuine. He loves soft ground and is usually better tucked in but Andrew [Mullen] just let him get on with it and although he looked beaten he stuck on gamely at the finish.

"We might run him at Musselburgh on Monday but he will have a break soon and then we're thinking about hurdles. We've given him a pop at home and he's forward-going and seems to enjoy it. We know he handles conditions with the winter season coming up, so it could be an option."

The win concluded a successful season at Ayr for Jardine and Mullen, who finished top of their respective leaderboards at the course for the year.

"It's one of my favourite tracks, it's been a good season here for us and we're absolutely thrilled," Jardine added. "It's great to win at the Western meeting with Havana Go and follow it up with the closer for the season."

Tudhope triumphant

Danny Tudhope, a familiar face in the winner's enclosure at Ayr, finished the day with a double for trainer David O'Meara.

The most successful jockey at the course for the last 5 years, Tudhope was a comfortable winner on Dr TJ Eckleburg before success with Cold Stare in the feature 6f handicap.
