'It’s like having ten winners' - Queen's Candle Of Hope delights Richard Hughes
Friday: Thirsk
Richard Hughes received another boost during the second-most prolific month of his training career when the Queen's Candle Of Hope maintained her unbeaten record in the 7f fillies' novice.
The daughter of Cable Bay comfortably dealt with the extra furlong to score under Rossa Ryan, following up her debut success at Newbury two weeks ago.
It was an 11th winner in July for Hughes, who said: "We couldn’t be more pleased. She wasn’t winning any gallops before she ran and since then she’s done nothing but improve. She’s an angel at home and really easy to deal with. We’ll find a Listed race for her now."
On the significance of training a winner for the Queen, Hughes, who rode 51 winners for the leading owner during his career as jockey, said: "It’s like having ten winners, it really is. I’m thrilled. We had three for her last year and two already this season so it’s great."
The best monthly winners haul of the Lambourn handler’s seven-and-a-half-year training career came in June 2017 with 14 and Hughes was full of praise for his staff as he attempts to set a personal best.
"There’s a great buzz around the place, everyone’s happy and positive," he said. "It definitely feeds off the horses, I’m sure of it."
Ryan completed a double aboard another promising two-year-old when helping the Amo Racing-owned Metahorse land the feature £15,000 7f nursery handicap for Michael Bell, which was the trainer’s first runner of the season at the North Yorkshire track.
