'It's been an incredible year' - more glory as Drinkwater continues fine season
Wednesday: Catterick
Sam Drinkwater hopes to attract more owners as he continued his fine season with another success courtesy of Spike Jones in the 3m1½f handicap hurdle.
The five-year-old was played late by jockey Danny Burton to get up by a head from the Charlie Longsdon-trained Moon King, providing Drinkwater with his 14th winner of the season.
The Worcestershire-based trainer said: "He's a walk in the park but likes to get on with things. We've put the hood on today with the tongue-tie and dropped him in as he's been keen, but three-mile-one furlong suited him well."
Drinkwater could look to send his winner over fences, adding: "I think there is more to come especially if we go chasing. He's a great jumper, very clean and accurate.
"He has his limitations, but crikey I would have a few more of him in the yard. He's hardy and you can run him frequently, he's just a lovely horse.
"We've got great owners, great staff and it's been an incredible year," he added. "If you'd have told me I'd have 14 winners at the beginning of the year I'd have taken your hand off.
"Hopefully we'll attract even more owners and get some more horses for the next season."
Family affair
It was a good day for the Easterbys at one of their local tracks as both father and son came away with a winner.
Betty Baloo won at her fifth attempt over hurdles for trainer Tim, who then watched on as son William landed the hunter chase aboard Absainte.
