'It's been a tricky one' - Glamorous Breeze ends drought for Chris Mason
Thursday: Chepstow
Glamorous Breeze ended a frustrating start to the season for trainer Chris Mason when she landed the 5f apprentice handicap.
The four-year-old had only previously managed one win – over this course and distance – in 17 starts, but she put a long run of placed efforts behind her to score comfortably by half a length under William Cox.
"She's very tricky," Mason said. "You've got to be right on the pace and drop her right on the line. She's got the talent to go forward but pricks her ears and does nothing when she hits the front."
It was a first winner of the year for Mason, who enjoyed a career-best 11 wins in 2021, and he put the slow progress down to his current crop of younger horses needing time to come to hand.
"It's been a tricky one," he added. "We had some really well-handicapped horses last year and we managed to make hay, but this year we've got a few younger horses who are taking a bit of time to come through and you can't rush them.
"When they do come to hand, it pays dividends. They're homebred and they are winning races, but it's just giving them the time when they are younger so you can get longevity. You've just got to be patient."
15th time lucky
Great decision-making by William Carson helped ensure Redredrobin gained a first career win at the 15th attempt for trainer Malcolm Saunders, who also owns the mare.
After a quick start, Carson took his mount over to the rail and made all to win by a length and a half in the 7f handicap.
