'Amazing' win for Butler's Brief 45 days on from being stuck in Uttoxeter ditch
Sunday: Uttoxeter
Butler's Brief produced a fairytale return to Uttoxeter to win under Nick Scholfield just 45 days after a horrific fall at the track.
The seven-year-old was lucky to walk away unscathed in June after he fell under Scholfield before running loose and getting stuck in a ditch.
Racing was delayed by almost two hours while racecourse staff worked to free the trapped horse, who they were forced to sedate in order to be safely removed from the ditch.
The incident appeared to have no ill effect on the Alastair Ralph-trained runner, who switched to hurdles and made virtually all in a confident first start since the accident in the 2m7½f handicap.
"It was amazing to get him back," said Ralph. "It was scary last time. He fell, went to the next fence and got stuck in the ditch. We had to cut him out of there and knock him out to safely get him.
"It's fantastic to get him back to win. He's got a great head on him and a great attitude. He's very happy-go-lucky, a happy chap. All the owners were here. They had a much better day than last time."
Hughes treble
Champion jump jockey Brian Hughes was in flying form with a treble that included success in the feature 3m2f handicap chase aboard Ruthless Article.
With wins on Onward Route and Durragh, Hughes continued his impressive record at the track, having also recorded a double on Friday.
