'It was a wonderful performance' - Roger Teal praises hat-trick scorer

A bold decision in August by trainer Roger Teal has paid dividends for Chipstead, who landed a hat-trick of wins at Bath under Trevor Whelan.

Teal dropped the three-year-old to five furlongs for the first time last month and was duly rewarded as the improving colt, who is a full-brother to King's Stand winner Oxted, landed the Summer Sprint Series Final from Ruby Cottage.

Teal said: "I dropped him back cheekily to five furlongs at Bath in August and none of the normal boys who ride him were available, so I picked Trevor to ride him and he did a fantastic job.

"I let him keep the ride as a result and he's three from three and won the Series Final. It's fantastic, so I'll take credit for the decision at least!"

He continued: "It was a wonderful performance to give away all that weight and the ground was probably on the quick side for him, so we're very proud of him.

"He's had three quick races now, so that might be it for the season; we'll see how he comes out of the race."

Storming success for Mangan

Black Hill Storm powered home to win the nursery under Gina Mangan, benefiting from the firm going to make all and win by four and three-quarter lengths.

Mangan, who came second on her other ride of the day behind Chipstead, will donate all her riding fees and prize-money towards Harriet Bethell’s JustGiving campaign. Bethell, who is recovering from a life-threatening fall two years ago, is walking the course at Pontefract to raise money for the Injured Jockeys Fund.
