Invincibella strikes for Portman in odds-on upset

There was a surprise in the 5f juvenile novice contest when the Jonathan Portman-trained Invincibella wore down strongly-supported 4-7 favourite Finch Hatton in the closing stages.

The daughter of Kodiac, who had finished a respectable fourth on her debut at Leicester this month, seemed to appreciate the strong pace early on and rallied bravely under Rob Hornby to win by a neck from second-place Sylvia's Mother and the well-backed favourite in third.

Portman, surrounded by members of the delighted Hot to Trot syndicate, said: "I was worried before the race that five furlongs on a sharp track would be too fast for her and, as you saw, they went very quick early on.
