Even on a gloomy day in West Yorkshire there was no missing Theflyingportrait as the exuberant grey lit up proceedings with a bold round of jumping in the feature 1m7f handicap chase.

Trained by Jennie Candlish for The Mere Partnership, Theflyingportrait might be nine going on ten but is in the form of his life as he added to a win here last month with another under Sean Quinlan.

"He settles better now and doesn't have to make the running, and that has been the key this season," said Candlish's assistant and partner Alan O'Keeffe. "His jumping is brilliant, it's a big asset, and Sean gets on so well with him."
