Completing a lap of honour is par for the course at most major athletics meetings, not so much on racecourses. But Caradoc did just that after getting off the mark in fine style on his first run of the season in the older-horse novice event.

A son of Camelot who cost 270,000gns as a yearling, he is trained by Ed Walker and had finished a promising fourth in a well-contested novice race at Kempton on his debut in December.

He did even better here, coming from an unpromising position on the turn for home with a sharp turn of foot to win going away by five lengths in the style of a decent performer.
