Champion rider Derek O’Connor is no stranger to racking up winners over the jumps given his successes in the point-to-point field, and he enjoyed a good day as he topped and tailed the card with a double.

O’Connor, who had just two rides on the card three hours and 20 minutes apart, proved the wait was worthwhile as he enjoyed an armchair ride on the very impressive Sempo in the concluding bumper for Joseph O’Brien.

The son of Oscar, who was having his third run, travelled really well throughout before streaking clear in the last furlong to score by 15 lengths from Casamari Abbey, a winning margin that did not fully reflect his superiority.
