Impressive Dunvegan rounds off a good week for Fahy

Pat Fahy doesn't mind describing himself as a small trainer, but the Carlow-based Galway man looks as though he could be punching above his weight with at least a couple of good horses this season.

A week which began with the victory of Castlegrace Paddy in the Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase at Cork last Sunday concluded with the impressive seasonal debut of Dunvegan in the 2m4f maiden hurdle. The son of Le Havre jumped well throughout Paul Townend and had the race won before he was left clear at the last by the fall of School Boy Hours, who in turn brought down the favourite Column Of Fire.

Grade 1 entries are now being contemplated for this dual bumper winner from last season, and not surprisingly so. Fahy said: "What more could he do? He did nothing wrong last year and to come back and show that he's a good horse was very good to see.
