Tuesday: Newcastle

Dave Armstrong left empty-handed on the last trip to his local track, but he enjoyed a marked change of fortune this time round with a 152-1 treble.

Call Me Harry, whom Armstrong owns with golfer Lee Westwood, got things off to the perfect possible start, shouldering a penalty for his debut win at Musselburgh to take the opening bumper under Conor O'Farrell.

Trained by Iain Jardine, the five-year-old is priced at 33-1 with bet365 for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival, and Armstrong told Sky Sports Racing: "It's a waste of time going with a double penalty anywhere else so we'll go down there and have a go.

"Whether he’s quick enough to take on the Irish guys remains to be seen, but you need to be a stayer at Cheltenham and he stayed today."

Armstrong and Westwood's day was to get better still as Sean Quinlan guided the Sandy Thomson-trained Donna's Double to a first win over hurdles in the 2m novice before Alan Doyle continued his resurgent run of form in the 2m½f handicap chase, riding his first winner for trainer Chris Grant aboard Six One Nine, a horse solely owned by Armstrong, to complete a memorable hat-trick.

The owner said: "The last time I came to Newcastle I went home with the tail between my legs, because I thought I had a real good chance with four of them yet three of them pulled up and the other was last, so today is a different day."

Armstrong's only other runner of the afternoon, Roan, finished last in the 2m4½f maiden hurdle won by the Lucinda Russell-trained Rowdy Rustler on Derek Fox's only ride of the day, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the owner at his winningmost track.

He said: "I'm delighted for Lee, who's currently in Saudi Arabia, but he's been watching the racing. I've had a couple of doubles, but this doesn't happen very often. To get three winners on a day out, I'm a happy boy."
