Elite Hurdle runner-up If The Cap fits made amends for that defeat with victory in the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle, and Jason Maguire, racing manager to owners Paul and Claire Rooney, indicated the Christmas Hurdle could be his next port of call prior to Cheltenham.

Trained by Harry Fry and the middle leg of a treble for Noel Fehily, the well-regarded six-year-old is 33-1 with Sky Bet and bet365 for the Unibet Champion Hurdle.

He stepped forward from his second at Wincanton, but admittedly was more gutsy than flashy.
