'I had a couple of pounds each-way at 100-1' - Coltherd dabble makes his day
Wednesday: Musselburgh
Silver Vision rewarded the faith of her connections when the 66-1 shot stayed on stoutly to take the 1m7½f juvenile hurdle under Derek Fox.
The Stuart Coltherd-trained filly had been beaten more than 22 lengths by My Brother Jack on her first start over hurdles in September, but wore down the long-time, Brian Hughes-ridden leader to reverse the form.
Silver Vision had been pulled up by the winning trainer’s son Sam due to a slipped saddle when last seen, but made up for that misfortune to the delight of Coltherd, who told Racing TV: “I had a couple of pounds each-way at 100-1, so it’s made the day.
“If you actually look at the form of her first run at Sedgefield, the horse that was just in front of her there [Vintage Valley] went on and won next time out, so I knew she’d improve. Did I think she’d win? Probably not, but I’ll take that.”
Co-owner Richard Binnie added: “Stuart told us he expected big things from this horse today and that’s what happened. I got 100-1, so I’m absolutely delighted.”
Danny McMenamin helped Coltherd complete a 602-1 double when steering Budarri, who was 24lb below his last winning mark, to success in the 2m handicap chase.
Hughes gained some compensation for missing out on My Brother Jack when landing the feature handicap chase on Flying Verse
Success on the David Dennis-trained veteran completed a double for the champion jockey, who had earlier helped General Officer make a winning hurdling debut for Donald McCain.
