It could not have been better scripted as Richard Johnson notched his 100th winner of the season at his local track when Arty Campbell landed the 2m5½f handicap hurdle.

Champion Johnson, 41, said his target this season is to better the 235 winners he accrued in 2015-16. He also stressed that any thoughts of retirement are far from the front of his mind.

He said: “I know it sounds unbelievable but I actually feel fitter and better now than I did back in my 20s so I can assure everyone there will be no hanging up my riding boots in anything like the near future.
