'I don't gamble so the price didn't matter to me!' - Muroor springs 100-1 shock

Victor Thompson only trains horses "for fun" given he has more pressing matters in running his farm and holiday complex, but the pleasure in his hobby certainly grew when Muroor caused a 100-1 shock in the 2m3½f handicap chase.

Thompson had failed to train a winner for 579 days, but that barren streak came to a surprise end when his rank outsider scythed his way through the field under Shane Quinlan to win by half a length.

While Muroor's victory was a shock for many, the trainer, whose yard is based by the sea on the Northumberland coast, was confident the seven-year-old would defy expectations.
