Phil York said he had little choice but to let Legal Ok, a horse he owns, trains and rides, make all the running to give the 54-year-old a first winner under rules for 400 days in the 2m handicap hurdle.

A prolific point-to-point trainer and rider, York's ventures into racing under rules are less frequent and he was led a merry jaunt by Legal Ok, who made all to win by ten lengths from Air Hair Lair.

York said: "It's the horse that makes the running and I don't think I had much choice, I don't even bother trying to stop him.

"I won twice with him pointing, but there's not much of that going on so we're back playing this game. I was telling the other jockeys beforehand how old I am – it's a long time to be out there. I wish I knew what kept me going because then I could turn it off."

Full Back impresses

The third of Plumpton's bonus series races was won in dominant fashion by Gary Moore's Full Back on what was an excellent day for the trainer and his son Josh.

Full Back's 31-length thrashing of Acey Milan in the 3m1½f novice chase puts him in line for a £40,000 bonus should he go on to win any race at the Cheltenham Festival, but Moore believes he is not yet at that standard.

"I was very pleased with him because Acey Milan is no mug," Moore said. "I hope he's a horse for the future, but I think he's a fair bit off the standard for Cheltenham at the moment."

Benevolentdictator then brought up a double on the card for the duo when increasing his record over fences to two from two in the 3m1½f handicap chase.

Moore said: "He's a horse that’s improving a lot and is one we think a lot of. We'll see what the handicapper does with him before deciding where to go next."
