'I can't complain' - Burns full of thanks as 30-1 double continues red-hot run
Tuesday: Epsom
Harry Burns was quick to praise the ingenuity of Simon and Ed Crisford and the owner of Star Player as the rider continued his hot streak with a 30-1 double on the card.
Burns prevailed by a short head aboard the juvenile in the opening nursery and it was inspired instructions from the bosses that helped pave the way.
He said: "The connections were adamant on me coming down the centre. The owner said 'whatever you do, come down the middle'.
"I'm getting a good bit of support from the bosses [Simon and Ed Crisford] and I really can't complain, especially when times are hard for everyone.
"Part of the reason I went to the Crisfords was to try and get on some of those nicer horses on the bigger days. That helps in getting noticed and they've been good to me in that sense."
Burns doubled up when the Gay Kelleway-trained Eloso won by a neck to win the 1m4f handicap, making it five wins from his last nine rides.
He said: "I fancied the first one and Gay really fancied the second one, while Stopnsearch [second in the 1m2f handicap won by Angels Roc] ran well too. If I'd gone a stride slower on him, I probably could have held on.
"It's just trying to get that big winner, I've only got one now until I lose my 5lb claim and it's just about chipping way."
Barren run ended
Kimifive snapped a losing sequence dating back to May 2019 with a dominant two-and-three-quarter-length success in the 7f handicap, his third start since joining trainer Ian Williams.
