Howzak! Ambitious Brisland sets his sights on 50 winners next season
Tuesday: Lingfield
Trainer Robyn Brisland is enjoying his best season and puts the success down to a new yard and upgrade in horses, which was illustrated when Howzak defied a penalty to land the 5f handicap by two-and-a-half lengths.
The mount of Martin Harley won at Chelmsford last week and Brisland will look for a quickfire treble from his three-year-old at the Essex track on Thursday.
“I'm sure he can shoulder another penalty, class always shines through – he's very uncomplicated,” said Brisland.
The Hampshire trainer, who is having his best season with 33 winners since taking out his licence in 2016, said: “We moved yards over a year ago, we've upgraded our facilities, upgraded our horses and have a great team of staff.”
The trainer has lofty ambitions for his new Danebury Stables saying: “We'd like to achieve 50 winners next year and more prize-money – we're very ambitious in terms of what we're trying to do.”
Support from the owners of Howzak, Cross Channel Racing, will be pivotal in achieving those targets.
“I can’t thank them enough for supporting us, especially through the pandemic – they were buying horses even though there was no racing,” said Brisland.
Hargreaves memorable first
Rob Hargreaves had a day he will never forget when riding his first winner on Ray’s The One in the 1m5f amateur jockeys' handicap. It was only his fifth ride under rules and continued the fine form of the Gary Moore stable.
