Hogan to focus on training after final winner in the saddle on Bua Boy

With the nascent careers of top-class sprinters Sceptical and Make A Challenge to shape, Denis Hogan brought the curtain down on his distinguished 17-year riding career after winning the Arthur Guinness Handicap Hurdle aboard Bua Boy. For good measure, he also trained runner-up Alabaster.

A protege of Charlie Swan, Hogan rode over a hundred winners since starting out in 2003 and nominated Moyhenna's victory in a valuable handicap chase at Punchestown as the pick of his yield.

"Riding and training her was special," he said after winning on Bua Boy, who returned the 5-1 favourite. "I like Galway and always have. I always trained horses for Galway so I just thought, if ever there was a time to go, it was here.
