Highflying Ben Curtis facing spell on the sidelines after fall from Mountain

Jockey Ben Curtis looks set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a suspected dislocated shoulder following a fall from Sugarloaf Mountain, who landed the 2m½f handicap.

Having completed a very successful summer, Curtis had been riding on a high with a career best 103 winners already on the board for the year but he suffered a reverse in fortunes when taking a heavy tumble from his mount about 100 yards after the winning post.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong said: “Ben Curtis was unseated from Sugarloaf Mountain just after passing the winning line and appeared to take quite a heavy fall. He has sustained a suspected dislocated shoulder and been taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for further assessment.”
