John Ferguson, chief executive of Godolphin, shunned the sun of Dubai for the snow of Newbury, but was still beaming despite the bitter winter blast after High Bridge impressed under his son Alex in the novice hurdle.

The son of Monsun was trained by Ferguson when he held a licence but, like a few others in the Bloomfields black, is now with Ben Pauling.

Unbeaten in three over hurdles, High Bridge is as short as 12-1 with bet365 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle, although William Hill go 20-1.
