'He's well up for it' - West hoping for more success with juvenile Mr Freedom
Sunday: Fontwell
Trainer Sheena West believed she had acquired "a nice juvenile hurdler" and was proved right when Mr Freedom left his hurdling debut performance firmly behind him.
The three-year-old was beaten 16 lengths into third on his first start behind Graffiti last month, but readily reversed the form with that rival, who could only manage third, running out a comfortable two-length winner in the 2m1½f juvenile hurdle.
"He's perfect. He was so green last time. If you watch it again everything went wrong! You could've pulled him up or he could've pulled himself up at any moment.
"He's gone home, slept on it and schooled since. He's well up for it now and should continue to provide a lot of fun for his connections."
The Affordable Partnership that owns Mr Freedom used to have horses with West and a chance meeting last month brought them back together.
"They used to have horses with me a few years ago then they got the hump and went off somewhere else but that's neither here nor there," said West.
"I saw them at Salisbury a couple of weeks ago and invited them to return. I took advantage of the situation and said I've got a nice juvenile hurdler for you.
"They bought him from me on that day. I do my best to take opportunities – it's not through lack of trying!"
Terrific Thomasina
Conditional Thomasina Eyston continued her good summer as she guided Dynamic Kate to victory in the 2m5½f mares' handicap hurdle. It was a fourth winner from eight rides for Eyston this season.
