'He's going in the right direction' - Bethell's joy as Skye Breeze wins again
Monday: Newcastle
Trainer Ed Bethell believes Skye Breeze has the ability to progress further after his success in the opening 1m4½f handicap.
The four-year-old, who was partnered by Hollie Doyle, was following up his win at Wolverhampton last month.
Bethell said: "He won nicely and he looks like he's going in the right direction.
"It was good to start the year off with our first winner from our first runner and hopefully he can progress over the winter because he could be a fun horse for his owner Mr Dawson."
Bethell registered 22 victories last year and added: "We have to keep going and try to beat what we did last year, but we have a nice team of horses to go to war with."
Doyle landed a double when partnering the Archie Watson-trained Abbey's Dream to win the 7f maiden.
Off the mark
Richard Fahey trained more than 100 winners for the 15th consecutive year in 2022 and his new year began with a double initiated by Zip, who took the feature 7f handicap, before Adeb landed the 6f handicap under Billy Garritty.
Winning again
Boafo Boy won for the first time since his debut as trainer Jamie Osborne completed an across-the-card double.
The four-year-old son of Lope De Vega held off the late challenge of Novak to score by a neck in the 7f handicap.
Osborne had earlier enjoyed a winner with Free Solo in the opening race of Lingfield's card.
