Tuesday: Bangor

Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero left Bangor with a winner from a slightly less expected source as Faro built upon a 40-1 second over course and distance last month to take the 2m½f handicap hurdle.

The joint-trainers had seen their 5-4 favourite Go On Chez beaten by David Pipe’s Red Happy in the feature 3m handicap chase before their other runner Faro, formerly trained by Francois Nicolle, secured a first success in Britain at the seventh attempt under Henry Brooke.

Greenall said: “He had some good form as a young horse in France and then just seemed to lose his way a little bit like they can do when they first come over from France. He’s dropped plenty in the weights and he’s got his confidence back and done it nicely.

“We were reasonably hopeful but not getting too overexcited so it’s nice to do it quite easily.”

Doubles all round

Donald McCain enjoyed a four-timer on his last visit to Bangor and he was back in the winner’s enclosure when Blakeney Point struck in the opening 2m7f handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys.

The nine-year-old benefited from a patient ride from the trainer’s daughter Abbie, before Brian Hughes guided Sweet Auburn – part-owned by the champion jockey’s agent Richard Hale – to a first win over hurdles to complete a double for McCain.

Also celebrating a double were Ben Pauling and Luca Morgan, who combined to take the 2m4½f handicap chase with Northern Bound before One Touch followed up last month’s win at Uttoxeter.
