'He's a sprinter going places' - Great Ambassador stars in Marquand treble

Great Ambassador followed in the footsteps of Ed Walker's top sprinter Starman by landing the feature Listed Biowavego Garrowby Stakes, and was part of a treble on the card for his jockey Tom Marquand.

The progressive Ebury Racing-owned four-year-old defeated last year's Hackwood Stakes scorer Tabdeed by a length and a half and remains 13-2 favourite for the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup with Paddy Power after this result.

Great Ambassador was a second winner on the card for Walker and Marquand after Kindness, sporting the Starman silks of David and Sue Ward, gained a first success on her third start in the 5½f novice.

Marquand completed a 40-1 treble aboard the William Haggas-trained Aramaic in the 1m2½f handicap.

Speaking of his winners, Marquand said: "Great Ambassador put the race to bed pretty sharply and he's a sprinter going places. He beat some proven Listed performers there and is clearly talented. There will be plenty of different options for him and it will be interesting where the team decide to go.

"Kindness showed good speed to pick the race up approaching the final furlong and it's great to ride a nice homebred winner for David and Sue.

"I was really pleased with Aramaic, who has always promised to be really nice. This was much more competitive than the maiden he won and he won nicely."

More joy for Ryan

Fresh from Sprint Cup success with Emaraaty Ana, Kevin Ryan saddled a third winner of the John and Judith Marshall Memorial Handicap in the last five years courtesy of the progressive Bergerac.

The Angie Bailey-owned three-year-old has now finished outside the first three just once in nine starts, scoring here by half a length under Kevin Stott.

Course firsts

Jockey Hector Crouch and trainer Emma Lavelle both celebrated their first winner on the Knavesmire when Master Milliner landed the 2m½f handicap. The five-year-old gained a third victory of the campaign by two lengths.
