'He's a horse that has one good burst' - Frost warms to stable veteran

Documenting made hard work of it but managed to secure a second success in the feature 7f condition stakes.

The eight-year-old accelerated with conviction to hit the front in the home straight, but once there he started to idle and just held off the fast-finishing Spycatcher by a neck.

“He's starting to get a bit lazy in his old age,” said trainer Kevin Frost. “He's a horse that has one good burst and when he does pass the others he tends to think he's done enough.”

Ryan Moore was on the 7-4 favourite and told his trainer a step-up in trip and a quick return could be an option.

“I never thought he'd get a mile but Ryan said now he's switching off better. He's in a mile conditions race back here on Friday,” Frost added.

Documenting has now won four times at Lingfield, including this race in 2019. When asked about all-weather finals day being relocated to Newcastle, Frost said: “You only have to look at his form; he needs a sound surface like Lingfield. Newcastle is going to ride a little bit deeper and more testing; it's a pain in the backside.”

Last year Frost moved to Danethorpe Stables in Nottinghamshire and is hopeful that will be the catalyst to kickstart his training career.

“It's the first time we've had facilities where we can compete and train a few more winners, but I'm like Documenting, I'm not getting any younger.”

Moore completed a double when guiding home 15-8 favourite Amirat Alward to land the 6f maiden for trainer Richard Hughes.
