'He's a decent animal' - Karl Burke's Looking For Lynda boosts Molecomb form
Friday: Musselburgh
The form of Trillium's Molecomb win received its first significant boost when Looking For Lynda edged out New Definition by a neck in the 5f conditions stakes.
The Karl Burke-trained two-year-old was a 50-1 sixth behind Trillium at Glorious Goodwood recently having also finished a credible fourth when 33-1 for the Super Sprint last month.
It looked as though Looking For Lynda would have to settle for second when headed by the Paul Mulrennan-ridden odds-on favourite inside the final furlong, but Burke's colt rallied under Sam James to record back-to-back wins in the race for the trainer.
"I thought we could beat the favourite," said Burke, who also took last year's contest with Fast Response. "I watched the favourite run and I wasn't sure he had a turn of foot.
"We've thrown Looking For Lynda in the deep end. He was fourth in the Super Sprint, he ran a great race there – he was second until the last 20 yards, really, and then we threw him in the Molecomb so he's a decent animal."
Looking For Lynda also finished sixth behind Phoenix Stakes favourite Bradsell when that colt made a winning debut York in May. Burke added: "He's had three quick runs now, but it looked a good opportunity to nick some nice prize-money so that's why we went there.
"We'll probably give him a few easy weeks now and might throw him in the deep end again up to Listed class or maybe a Group 3 in September."
Mulrennan gained swift compensation for his near miss on New Definition when completing a double on the card, landing the 1m6f feature handicap aboard the veteran Sir Chauvelin for Jim Goldie and the 1m4½f handicap on Martin Todhunter's Arrange.
Prolific Perratt
Fresh from observing her Scottish team strike on the opening night of the Racing League at Doncaster on Thursday evening, Linda Perratt enjoyed some personal success with a 33-1 double.
Chinese Spirit got the verdict from Bankawi in a photo-finish in the opening 1m1f handicap before Monhammer, Perratt's only other runner of the day, took the 7f handicap.
