'He's a class horse' - Loughnane hails Dubai Warrior after winning second Quebec
Saturday: Lingfield
All-weather specialist Dubai Warrior regained his Listed Quebec Stakes crown, this time for trainer Dave Loughnane.
The five-year-old, a comfortable winner of the 1m2f race in 2019 for John Gosden, had to battle gamely under Richard Kingscote to repel the challenge of the Ryan Moore-ridden Regal Reality to hold on by a nose. Moore received a two-day ban for overuse of the whip.
“He’s a class horse and it was great to see him do it,” said Loughnane.
It was a fourth course-and-distance win for Dubai Warrior, who will aim to make it five when returning for the Group 3 Winter Derby, a race he also won in 2020.
Loughnane added: “His programme is mapped out and the Winter Derby is our target. He's an all-weather horse. We just get him fit and he does the rest – he makes our job very easy.”
For Loughnane it was a 41st winner of the year, equalling his best tally from last year. Of Dubai Warrior, he said: “I'm very privileged to have a horse of his calibre in the yard and grateful to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum for giving us the chance to train him.”
The Shropshire-based handler will look to continue the family’s success with Dubai Warrior’s half-sister by Kingman pencilled in to make her debut before the new year.
Kingscote follows up
Thirty-five minutes after his success aboard Dubai Warrior, Richard Kingscote completed a double aboard the Simon Hodgson-trained C'Est No Mour in the 1m4f handicap. It was a 14th winner of the year for Hampshire-based Hodgson, eclipsing his previous best of six from last year.
