'He's a chaser in the making' - Downpatrick double for Gordon Elliott
It was a case of another day, another double for Gordon Elliott as the trainer continued to rack up the winners with Boothen Boy and Mars Harper scoring at Downpatrick on Friday.
Boothen Boy secured a straightforward success in the opening maiden hurdle under Jack Kennedy before Mars Harper delivered the quick-fire double when bagging the following rated novice hurdle under Jordan Gainford.
It was a particularly well-timed success for Mars Harper, for just as Gainford punched him out to a two-length success Myles Richardson, who runs the winning Pioneer Racing Syndicate, tied the knot.
Speaking about the five-year-old winner, assistant trainer Lisa O'Neill, said: "He was good and Jordan gave him a lovely ride – he saved plenty of ground. They seemed to go hard up front and he stayed on up the hill really well."
O'Neill added: "We've had a lot of luck with Pioneer Racing. They've had plenty of good days and hopefully there are a lot more to come."
Boothen Boy was sent off a 4-5 favourite and duly obliged in the colours of Caldwell Construction Ltd.
Kennedy said: "I didn't want to be in front to be honest but there was no pace so we kept it steady.
"He's a lovely big horse and is still a baby. He's a chaser in the making so whatever he does over hurdles is a bonus. He'll come on plenty from that."
