'He's 7lb better round there' - Civil Law is a Christmas cracker for Roger Teal
Monday: Wolverhampton
The adage horses for courses couldn't ring truer than with Civil Law, who added to his tremendous record here with a last-ditch success in the Class 2 1m1½f handicap.
The five-year-old now has four wins and a second from five course starts and after being last turning for home, he sneaked up the rail under Cieren Fallon to land back-to-back wins.
"He loves it round Wolverhampton. That's four from five there now and the time he got beat, Joe [Fanning] said he should've won. He's 7lb better round there," Teal said.
"It was a nice little race to win, a nice pot. He's had a few issues, God bless him. He's a hard horse to keep sound but he's done us proud there.
"He's such a warrior, I love him to bits. Cieren was very cool on him – I didn't expect us to be last turning in – and fair play to him, he got the job done."
Teal has saddled two winners and five seconds from 11 runners over the last two weeks and on his form he added: "I said to Cieren that I needed a Christmas winner, so at least he listened to me! The horses have been in great form and it's been a good year for us. I've been delighted with how it's gone."
Fallon completed a double with a near identical ride on Dream Harder, who justified favouritism in the following 1m1½f handicap for trainer Ian Williams.
Terrific Tipple
Many enjoy a drink at Christmas and some may have followed the Richard Hannon-trained Mums Tipple, who was a fitting Christmas winner of the Class 2 6f conditions stakes under Sean Levey.
Hannon completed a double when Witch Hunter landed the 7f handicap under Alec Voikhansky.
