Venetia Williams showered praise on jockey Charlie Deutsch after he rode Cloudy Glen to an impressive victory in the Southern National.

Wearing the Trevor Hemmings colours carried to Grand National glory on three occasions, Cloudy Glen travelled powerfully into contention and cantered home by 13 lengths from favourite Christmas In April on a card that was almost cancelled after 24mm of rain fell on the track in the preceding 24 hours, forcing a morning inspection.

The heavy conditions helped seven-year-old Cloudy Glen, who has often raced too keenly but was ushered expertly into the race by Deutsch on his first attempt beyond three miles.
