'He'd be one of our best' - Symonds sweet on Moriko De Vassy after easy win
Monday: Hereford
Tom Symonds believes Moriko De Vassy could be one of his best novice hurdlers after a wide-margin victory on his hurdles debut.
The four-year-old hit the front two out in division two of the 2m novice hurdle and sauntered to success by 30 lengths under Aidan Coleman.
He maintained his unbeaten record and left his trainer suitably impressed. "For a horse that had only run in one bumper when there was no crowd, it was quite a lot for him to go do it like that," said Symonds.
"He's been showing us a lot ever since we got going with him; he'd be one of our best ones. He's a talented horse and it's great that he's been able to take his natural ability and apply it to jumping."
Moriko De Vassy's victory was the second leg of a double for Coleman, who landed the first division of the 2m novice hurdle on the Olly Murphy-trained Believe Jack, and Symonds praised the in-form jockey after he took his strike-rate in the last two weeks to almost 48 per cent.
"Aidan was very sensible in how he approached it and gave the horse the best experience on the day," said the trainer. "Aidan hadn't schooled him but Ben Poste did a lot with him at home and deserves a lot of credit too."
Peltwell's super six
Peltwell ran up a remarkable six-timer when narrowly winning the concluding 2m mares' handicap hurdle, completing a double for Sam Twiston-Davies, who won the 2m handicap chase on Obey The Rules.
