'He seems like a different horse' - Fancy Man shows style in Winter Derby Trial
Saturday: Lingfield
Fancy Man will make his first trip overseas for Richard Hannon after a decisive victory in the Listed Winter Derby Trial Stakes.
The four-year-old returned from a five-month break to land back-to-back wins on the all-weather for Sean Levey, storming down the centre of the track to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Although cut to 6-1 for the Betway Winter Derby, Fancy Man is expected to travel abroad for the Amir Trophy in Qatar in two weeks, with Hannon hoping the Michael Pescod-owned runner will continue to show his new spark.
"We've always thought a fair bit of him, but he was a little frustrating at times last year; he seems like a different horse now," Hannon said. "These sort take a long time to make, but we've taken our time with him and are starting to get the rewards.
"Qatar is the likely target over the Winter Derby, that was always the plan. The prize-money is massive out there and it's a shame today wasn't a fast-track qualifier.
"I'd love to come back with him for the All-Weather Championships, but he would need another two runs and that's not possible, which is a shame."
Spycatcher strikes
Clifford Lee claimed a last-to-first success in the Listed Kachy Stakes with Spycatcher, who snatched the feature race by a neck from stablemate Lord Of The Lodge for Karl Burke.
Moore magic
Ryan Moore capped off a perfect Saturday for his father Gary with success on He's A Latchico in the 1m2f handicap.
The trainer, who had already enjoyed a double at Sandown, claimed his third winner from three runners on the day, with one each for Ryan and his brothers Jamie and Josh.
