'He likes to dominate' - Percy's Lad lands another big prize for the Kublers
Saturday: Chester
Joint-trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler scooped another valuable handicap prize on the Roodee as Percy’s Lad proved too good for ten rivals in the £46,000 7½f handicap.
Tom Eaves had Percy’s Lad in front after one furlong and the 20-1 chance pulled out more in the closing stages to hold off Positive Impact by half a length.
“Outgate has already won two big handicaps for us at the track this season – and it’s great that we are getting known at the course for these valuable handicaps,” said Daniel Kubler.
“I was surprised he was such a big price after he ran such a good race in the Hunt Cup. He’s quite a strong traveller and the turning track here has suited him well.
"He hadn’t quite come back from Ascot when he was well beaten at Ffos Las on his last outing.
“He likes to dominate and a Listed race with a small field might work for him but, if not, there are plenty of handicaps for him, and he might do even better when he gets softer ground.”
Stars in Beckett's eyes
Ralph Beckett has his team in top condition and shortly after a Group 2 victory at York, the trainer landed another handsome prize when River Of Stars made all for a stylish success in the 1m6½f Listed race.
Record run
The fast conditions resulted in several races being run in below-standard times and the two-year-old course record was lowered by the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained All The Time on her way to victory by four and a half lengths in the 6f fillies' conditions stakes.
